Mission of the Role

Kiverdi is looking for an organized self-starter who can efficiently manage the execution of a technical and commercial roadmap. Success in the role means that the deliverables are completed on time and within budget to the satisfaction of both the customers and Kiverdi. This role involves developing consortia to secure government funding for commercialization projects, including animal feed projects.

Kiverdi is on a mission to enable the large-scale transformation of carbon dioxide into high-value products, making the sustainable production of everyday products a reality. To do this, Kiverdi is commercializing a NASA-inspired technology that uses microorganisms to convert carbon dioxide (with other simple mineral nutrients and gases) into raw materials for everyday consumables such as food and feed. The Product Development Lead's main responsibility will be to develop and manage a roadmap for feed product development and commercialization, including identifying indicators for a successful technical scale up and product launch.  More specifically, the Product Development Lead will:

  • Work with the internal and external stakeholders to develop production protocols and processes that meet all client product specifications and deliver on-spec, on-time sample quantities of the agreed products.
  • Lead the grant acquisition process, including conducting a global analysis of the granting landscape, mapping out submissions, understanding clients current roadmap, development of a consortium required for a successful application, and assessing best opportunities.
  • Review and update techno-economic assessments.
  • Refine, manage, and "own" the project workplan.
  • Create and manage associated resource plans.
  • Create and manage to the associated KPIs, which will include both technical performance as well as qualitative metrics such as stakeholder satisfaction, safety, quality, and team member performance.
  • Manage external service providers including contractor identification and short-listing, contract negotiation, expectations setting, and accountability maintenance.
  • Regularly communicate with VP and C level stakeholders to ensure transparency around the project and any possible issues.
  • Produce accurate and timely reporting of the project status throughout its life cycle.
  • Analyze and manage project risks.



  • 10+ years of industry experience, in chemical or biological industries.
  • Experience with pilot scale-up of bioprocesses or chemicals
  • 10+ years of prior and recent Project / Program Management experience
  • Deep understanding and proven hands-on experience with building technical and economic assessments
  • Proven experience of managing subcontractors involved in a building of a pilot plant
  • Proven experience of stakeholder management (VP level and above)
  • Proven experience of developing RFPs for engineering vendors
  • Proven negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent training
  • Proven experience and successful track record of grant submission, domestically and internationally
  • Expert level proficiency with project management software
  • PMP certification is preferred, but not required
  • Understanding and extensive prior effective use of project management software
  • Experience with grant writing is strongly desired
  • Proven experience managing a team in a matrix structure
  • Prior experience of working globally, especially in Europe, is required
  • Prior startup experience strongly desired
  • International travel up to 50%

This position is based out of Kiverdi HQ in Hayward, CA with the option to work in Berkeley or Oakland part of the time. International travel is required up to 50% of the time.
